MURMUR / system 001 build guide

SYSTEM 001 / Prototype build guide

SYSTEM 001 / DG03 / 19 September 2026

From design intent
to the workbench.

The MURMUR prototype design and build guide. COWL, the removable MOLT CORE carrier and the reference bench hardware, documented as one serviceable system.

DG03 preserves the approved design direction and the first 75 page positions, then adds 13 workshop pages that explain what to check, wire, measure and record next.

PDF: 88 pages, 2.6 MB. Toolkit: 3.5 MB, including the PDF, editable HTML, offline tracker, operation records, input diagnostic and software test reports. No purchase required.

Approved COWL side-view design study showing the architectural shell and high cowl.

01 / What improved

Instructions between the major steps.

Garment construction. Matched zipper landmarks; a written record for each seam, cut line and allowance; inspections before pocket cutting, sleeve closure and lining closure; and a service-removal check while access is still open.

Carrier fit. Measure the complete connected module, not just the PCB. Prove connector withdrawal and module removal using inert mock-ups, then register all six interfaces with witness marks.

First electrical test. An input-only Pico 2 diagnostic for MODE, UP, DOWN, ACTION and the normally closed tamper contact, with a physical event checklist and explicit GPIO/header-pin mapping.

Revision control. The tracker retains the original 54 activity IDs and adds 13. Imported DG02 passes become Review required without discarding their recorded results or evidence references.

02 / Start building

Your first useful workshop session.

Start at page 76. The aim is a real record, one tested seam coupon, one measured module envelope and a five-input event log—not an untested fully wired garment.

  1. Identify the sample. Extract the toolkit, open BUILD_TRACKER.html in a JavaScript-enabled browser and record the sample identifier, operator, actual materials and exact board revision.
  2. Make one seam-stack coupon. Use offcuts of the actual shell, backing and thread. Follow pages 16–17; record the stitch settings, fabric direction and result against the labelled specimen.
  3. Wire only the five inputs. Use an identified, otherwise disconnected Pico 2. With power disconnected, follow page 82 and continuity-check the contacts. Follow pages 83–84 to run the supplied diagnostic. Preserve existing firmware; this is not the full BLACK firmware.
  4. Measure one connected module. Follow page 80 with its real enclosure, connector and cable attached. Make an inert mock-up and prove the removal route before fixing the carrier pocket.
  5. Save the evidence. Export the tracker JSON and retain the labelled photographs, measurements and event log beside it. The JSON stores the record and file references, not the referenced photographs or binaries.

03 / Find the operation

One guide. Stable page references.

Work Pages Use it for
Preparation and fit 12–20 Material preparation, sewing coupons, pattern checks and toile.
COWL construction 21–42 Pockets, zipper, facings, sleeves, cowl, lining and service access.
MOLT and routing 43–49 Carrier fitting, representative modules and the labelled harness.
Bench reference 50–65 Pin allocation, separate power domains and subsystem checks.
Wear and records 66–73 Movement, removal, acceptance, troubleshooting and tracker use.
DG03 workshop additions 76–88 First session, closure checks, datum transfer, module removal, input diagnostic and change-impact review.

04 / What the release proves

Documented work is not a physical test result.

The release checks recorded 88 pages and 88 bookmarks, with no detected layout overflow. The input diagnostic passed 12 host unit tests. The tracker passed 15 browser checks, including import/export, DG02 migration, evidence-field checks and mobile layout.

Those checks do not establish on-board execution, garment fit, load capacity, thermal behaviour, electrical isolation or RF performance. The tracker begins with every physical activity unrecorded. Its Passed state records an operator's decision; it cannot inspect an evidence file or certify the criterion.

The native full-size C5A/C.4 cutting master is not included. The guide's diagrams and inherited piece envelopes are not substitutes for native cutting contours. Obtain and verify that master and the actual carrier geometry before final garment cutting. Identified-board input checks, seam coupons and measured inert mock-ups can proceed now.

05 / Keep the build current

Change the record when you change the part.

Keep the sample, board revision, material specimen and firmware identifier with each result. Changing the recorded configuration, result or evidence on a Passed activity reopens it for review. Use page 87 to identify related tests that must be repeated; the tracker does not infer every engineering dependency.

The toolkit includes DG03_CHANGE_RECORD.json, PAGE_INDEX.json, PACKAGE_SHA256.json and the software QA reports. Browser storage may be unavailable or cleared, so export the JSON at the end of each session.

06 / Programme status

One programme. A visible development record.

Publishing DG03 does not release a finished garment specification or announce a delivery date. COWL and MOLT CORE remain development components. The separate A$250 Founder's Reservation retains its published credit and refund terms.
